One of the referee’s at the 2026 Fifa World Cup works as an insurance broker.

Gustavo Tejera, from Uruguay, has held an international Fifa licence since 2018. This year’s tournament has seen him officiate South Korea’s group match against Mexico and Australia’s round of 32 tie against Egypt.
According to Transfermarkt data, Tejera has made 346 appearances during his career.
However, he is also an insurance broker by trade, having been in the profession for over 15 years.
He is currently working as a director at GT Brokers. Tejera also worked as an account executive at Global Brokers, which is based in Montevideo, Uruguay.

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
