The hire has previously worked at Axis Managing Agency, Novae Group and PWC

Arch Insurance International, part of Arch Capital Group, has appointed Tom Rivers as its new chief risk officer, with immediate effect.

Rivers has developed enterprise risk management and regulatory experience in corporate actuarial and risk management roles across a 20-year career in the insurance sector.

Prior to his appointment, he spent nearly five years as chief risk officer at Axis Managing Agency. He has also worked at Novae Group and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).

Speaking on the appointment, Hugh Sturgess, chief executive of Arch Insurance International, said: “Tom is a highly respected authority on risk management.

“His extensive experience in embedding robust risk cultures and using a holistic view of landscape to guide strategic level risk decisions is a welcome addition to our senior management team.

“I look forward to working with him to support the delivery of the business’ long-term needs and ambitions.”

Arch Capital Group consists of Arch Insurance International, Arch Insurance UK and the property and casualty insurance operations of Arch Insurance (EU) dac, as well as Arch’s insurance operations in Europe, Bermuda and Australia. It recorded $16.7bn (£12.2bn) of capital as of 30 June 2021.
