Brewis is leaving the FCA to take on a new role at KPMG UK
Graeme Reynolds will temporarily cover the responsibilities of insurance director at the FCA following the announcement of Matt Brewis’ departure from the role.
Yesterday (31 July 2025), KPMG UK revealed that Brewis would join as a partner in its financial services risk and regulatory advisory practice.
Brewis, who is leaving the FCA after nine years, will take on the new role in the new year.
He will remain at the FCA in the meantime, with him moving off all firm facing work from 4 August and continue working at the regulator during his notice period on other matters, with all conflicts managed. The FCA will soon begin recruiting for the position of insurance director.
In the meantime, Reynolds, director of competition at the regulator, will cover the responsibilities of insurance director, in addition to his current role.
Statement
Brewis joined the FCA in 2016 as head of department and took on his latest role in 2020, with him overseeing insurance policy and the supervision of general insurance, life insurance and the appointed representative regime.

In a statement, the FCA said: “Brewis has made an enormous contribution during his almost 10 years of service.
“As insurance director, he has led on efforts to make sure customers get fair value, improve firms’ claims handling and simplify the rulebook.”

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
