Smart and Cook
Yorkshire-based Smart and Cook, one of the UK's leading insurance and financial services brokerages, has appointed Neil Thornton as branch director of the group's head office in Harrogate. Previously based in the company's Scarborough office, he will be responsible for attracting local businesses to new corporate risk strategies incorporating a range of insurance products. Also, Keith Holmes has taken over as Scarborough's branch director. He will be responsible for managing a 23-strong team and informing clients of products.

INSURERS

Composite Legal Expenses
Barry Smith has been appointed sales director for Composite Legal Expenses to head its development within the commercial legal expenses department, following the launch of its new quotation software package. Smith is a fellow of the CII and was previously regional development manger for Hiscox.

DAS
DAS has created the new role of human resources and quality manager and appointed Helen Gwynne. The company has created the role due to its belief in combining management responsibilities for human resources with those for quality.

Royal London
Colin Hughes and John Partridge have been appointed regional directors to oversee sales operations in the North and West of the country. Hughes will be based in Newcastle upon Tyne. He has previously worked at Allied Dunbar and Prudential. Partridge will be based in Bristol. He joins after ten years with Prudential.

Axa
Steve Phillips has been appointed Axa regional branch manager in Southampton. He will be responsible for increasing profitability and improving customer services with Axa's commercial intermediaries.

LLOYD'S

Lloyd's Policy Signing Office
Len Bateman has been appointed deputy general manager responsible for all processing arrangements at LPSO. Rob Myers becomes head of operations, Maureen Thomas becomes administration manager, Mark Slade has taken responsibility for managing the flexible working programme of LPSO and Brian Austin takes over from Bateman as manager of technical services.

St Paul
Nick Holding has been appointed to the new position of underwriting manager - marine. He will be responsible for the marine account with emphasis on developing UK-based business through new and existing brokers to further establish the St Paul as a recognised marine player. Also, Chris Murphy has been appointed energy underwriter at sub-syndicate 2011, the St Paul's marine syndicate. He was previously deputy energy underwriter for the London and Edinburgh, and has more than 15 years experience of the offshore energy sector. Duncan Wilkinson, chief executive of St Paul at Lloyd's, said: "I am delighted Chris has accepted this position. His specialist knowledge will enable us to increase our market share in an important part of our marine book."

3 Arrows
Nikki Chamberlain has been appointed marketing manager at 3 Arrows. Chamberlain comes to the company to develop its promotional strategies. She said: "I will be looking at ways to further raise the profile of the company."

ServiceMaster
John Foad has been appointed marketing director for Service Master, a property restoration company based in the South East of England. He will take overall responsibility for overseeing the national account management and business development teams.

Mondial
Mondial Assistance, international assistance service providers, has added four members to its IT department. Peter Lymer joins the IT development team as senior analyst. Matthew Watters joins as analyst programmer. Fiona Montgomery has been appointed IT support analyst and Mark Humber joins also as a support analyst.
