‘This partnership strengthens our commitment to amateur and grassroots sport even further,’ says director

Howden has been named the official insurance partner of England Golf in a three-year agreement running to the end of 2028.

The partnership brings together the broker and the national governing body to support initiatives aimed at making golf safer, more sustainable and more accessible, while strengthening insurance provision for players and clubs across England.

As part of the deal, Howden continues in its role arranging £10m public liability insurance for every England Golf club member and iGolf subscriber.

The broker also introduced an option for golfers to purchase additional cover, including protection for theft and overseas travel, designed to sit alongside existing policies as an upgrade.

Andy Goulbourne, divisional director, sport and entertainment at Howden, said the firm’s experience working with more than 300 national governing bodies had given it a strong understanding of the sector’s risk management requirements.

“This partnership strengthens our commitment to amateur and grassroots sport even further,” he explained.

“As part of our role, we will be arranging protection for England Golf members and iGolf subscribers, supported by our sector-leading expertise and a dedicated team, including specialist claims handlers, to assist members whenever they need us.”

Protecting grassroots golf

The collaboration also includes investment in England Golf’s Play Safe, Stay Safe campaign, which promotes safe environments and education across clubs and local communities.

England Golf chief executive Jeremy Tomlinson said the agreement aligned with the organisation’s ambition to protect participants while encouraging growth in the sport.

“Howden’s scale, expertise and commitment to community sport make it an ideal partner as we continue to support golfers and clubs across the country,” he noted.

With around 200 branches across the UK and Ireland, Howden said it aimed to build relationships with affiliated clubs at a local level, offering tailored risk and insurance support while deepening engagement with grassroots sport.

The broker has expanded its presence in the sports sector in recent years through partnerships spanning sailing, tennis and horseracing.
