Alina Schatten, vice president for claims at Intact Insurance UK, discusses her firm’s entry to the Customer Champion of the Year – Insurer award alongside industry partners

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for this category?

In collaboration with DWF, Alder, and Marsh, we created Crisis Response as part of our liability insurance for independent schools.

Our customers are school leaders and the product is a pioneering service that delivers immediate, expert support when they face unimaginable crises – often the most challenging and stressful moments of their professional lives.

From tragic loss to safeguarding concerns, delays and complexity can make the worst moments even harder.

Crisis Response removes red tape and provides 24/7 access to legal, insurance, and communications specialists – often within minutes – so schools can act decisively and compassionately. With over 500 independent schools covered and demand rising, we recently doubled cover to reflect the growing number of crises and ensure customers have the support they need.

2. What makes your entry stand out, and why should you win the award?

Crisis Response is unique because it transforms crisis related liability claims for schools from a reactive scramble into a structured, human-centred solution.

A single call activates a pre-prepared team of legal, PR and insurance specialists – removing delays, paperwork and complexity.

School leaders receive expert guidance within minutes, protecting reputations, reducing stress and helping them navigate the most harrowing moments with dignity and compassion.

In the aftermath of a crisis, the team helps schools manage national and international media, guides them through legal processes including liaison with police and medical professionals and provides expertise for inquests and court cases. Leaders describe our support as “inconceivable to have coped without”.

No other product in the market matches its depth, speed or impact.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning this award would honour the empathy and expertise we bring to supporting schools in their darkest moments. It would validate our decade-long commitment to innovation and collaboration that has redefined crisis management in education.

Crisis Response exemplifies our commitment to putting customers first – built on compassion, speed and collaboration – and stands as a prime example of what insurance is about and should be.

For us, this award would celebrate a solution that safeguards communities, provides real human support when it’s needed most and ultimately protects reputations. It would inspire us to keep evolving and ensure every school feels supported when the stakes are highest.
