General insurance policies are underwritten by Hiscox

A new insurance provider, backed by BHIB Insurance Brokers, has launched for freelancers working within the creative industries, allowing professionals to access general insurance, life insurance and income protection through a broker.

Create Insurance, underwritten by Hiscox for general insurance and Vitality for life insurance and income protection, is aimed at those working within creative fields, such as photographers, script writers, makeup artists and camera assistants.

Customers can choose from a suite of appropriate levels of cover for their equipment, work or themselves.

Distinctive proposition

Create Insurance is part of BHIB Insurance Brokers; the proposition was designed by former freelancers and those with marketing backgrounds in order to tailor the product for the end customer.

Mark Plews, head of schemes at Hiscox UK, said: “As a specialist insurer we are always looking for ways to bring our underwriting expertise to different markets. The flexible approach to insurance that this provides meets the unique needs of freelancers well, and we are excited to be working with Create on such a distinctive proposition.”

The product was built by BHIB’s own in-house software company, Brokertech - it allows freelancers to dial up or down the types of insurance they need.

Ajay Mistry, partnerships director for BHIB and Create Insurance, explained this means that it can be quickly changed to suit the evolving needs of customers.

“We’ve launched something new and exciting to help creative freelancers buy the insurance they need. We’ve married BHIB’s wealth of insurance broking expertise, with a team of freelancers to build a fresh and flexible service.

“The creative freelance economy is diverse and growing rapidly as more people than ever make the shift away from traditional ways of working. This can be daunting enough, and we know they need a simple and straightforward way to buy the cover they need, how they want, when they want it,” he added.

Mistry said that customers can buy short-term as well as annual policies, and will have access to easy online claims reporting.

Customer can also benefit from a 24/7 legal helpline, UK, EU or worldwide cover, and free HR tools, among other benefits.
