Insurer QBE has appointed Stephanie Cryer as chief underwriting officer for its international division.

Starting the new position from 1 April 2026, Cryer will report to QBE International’s chief executive Jason Harris and join QBE’s international executive management board.
In her role, she will be working closely with QBE’s group chief underwriting officer Peter Burton.
Cryer takes over from Nick Hankin, who was appointed managing director at QBE Re in January 2026.
Harris said: “I am delighted to announce Cryer as the chief underwriting officer for our international division and wish her well in her new role when she starts in April.
”Her extensive experience and knowledge of the market make her a good fit for this role. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to make this appointment from within QBE. It’s a reflection of the calibre of our leaders at QBE and our strong commitment to supporting and recognising talent within the international division.”
Experience
Joining QBE in 2017, Cryer began at the firm as its head of property before progressing to become head of product in 2021.

In her previous position, Cryer gained experience leading product strategy, wordings and underwriting controls across multiple lines and jurisdictions.
Prior to serving at QBE, she held previous positions at Chubb, including an 11 year stint as vice president and head of fire from 2015.
