Drivers with convictions often have problems securing cover and this product aims to plug the gap

Telematics motor insurtech Ticker yesterday (7 February 2023) launched a product for drivers with past driving convictions, bans and multiple claims.

This release marks the telematics insurtech firm’s fifth offering, with the firm’s products also now available across four major price comparison websites.

The newly released product offers drivers an “affordable option for insurance against the backdrop of a continued cost of living crisis and ongoing inflation” as drivers with convictions often find it complicated and hard to find cover.

Richard King, founder and chief executive of Ticker, said: “A driving conviction or ban will cause a huge amount of disruption to a person’s life and could even result in a loss of livelihood.

”When they’re ready to get back on the road, high insurance premiums add an extra obstacle.”

Breaking down the barriers

The firm’s mission is to bring connected motor insurance to a much wider market with propositions for most UK drivers.

King added: “Insurance premiums are high after a conviction, making getting back on the road after a ban almost unattainable for a growing number of drivers. Ticker is using connected insurance to help break down the barriers they are facing.”

Data from the Home Office published in June 2022 revealed that driving convictions were 14% higher in 2022 compared to the previous year – continuing a decade-long upward trend.

Ticker’s focus in all its products is putting the customer in control of their insurance, it said – this new product allows another set of customers to find competitive car insurance.
