’There’s a strange dichotomy that comes with redundancy that I don’t think anyone prepares you for,’ says head of DEI
Gemma Jackson, head of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) at Intact Insurance, is leaving the insurer after nearly 20 years.

Jackson was appointed in 2007 as team leader before adopting her current role in 2022, in which she was responsible for leading the development and delivery of the UK and Ireland DEI strategy across organisational culture, leadership practice and the employee lifecycle.
In a LinkedIn post on 6 July 2026, Jackson revealed that she was “preparing to close a chapter that has shaped so much of [her] career, as a result of [her] role being made redundant following a restructure”.
Intact said that responsibility for DEI will continue to be led by Sarah Mantle-Gray, chief human resources officer. It will be embedded across the insurer’s people strategy and human resources team.
A spokesperson from Intact told Insurance Times: “Our commitment to DEI remains unchanged and continues to be an important part of how we support our people and serve our customers.”
Looking back
Speaking about her departure via LinkedIn, Jackson continued: “There’s a strange dichotomy that comes with redundancy that I don’t think anyone prepares you for.

“It inevitably makes you reflect on what you’ve achieved, how you view yourself and the impact you’ve had. It’s quite a whirlwind. I’m incredibly proud and grateful for everything I’ve been fortunate to be part of here.
“Some of my proudest moments are tied to this business, from helping introduce equal parental leave and other inclusive policies, to building domestic abuse support provisions, completing my MSc and supporting our employee resource groups as they delivered truly meaningful change.”

She joined the title after completing a Master's degree in Journalism in 2025, having previously graduated with a degree in English Literature.View full Profile
