Admiral and legal advisors HF have obtained a judgment against a mother and son fraudster duo that pursued an injury claim worth a total value of £2m .

Involved in a minor accident, Inderjit Singh pursued a claim with Admiral for significant head injury, cognitive issues and claimed that she required round-the-clock care to tend to her own basic needs.
While Admiral accepted that Inderjit had maintained some injury, it contested that the extent of her claim was completely at odds with what would have been expected in the circumstances.
The claim was brought with considerable help from her son and chartered accountant Simerjit Singh, who lived with her during the period when care was claimed.
Simerjit supported the fraud by giving evidence to medical experts, providing a witness statement corroborating his mother’s claim and helping with the production of a detailed schedule of the care and assistance his mother was allegedly given.
Investigations by Admiral and HF, however, showed that Singh was not in receipt of any round-the-clock care and was fully able to fend for herself, walk unaided and even drive – in the three years following the accident she averaged 10,000 miles per year.
Alex Wilkinson, partner and head of the large loss fraud team at HF, said: “Claimants who dishonestly exaggerate their otherwise genuine claims should already be wary given the power the court has to dismiss claims.
”This case helps demonstrate that they, and anyone who helps them commit fraud, should also consider what other sanctions they could face.”
Paying the price
On 23 July 2025 after a six-day trial in May, HHJ Hellman found that Singh had brought a dishonest claim – that she and her son had conspired against Admiral – and ordered them to make an initial payment towards those costs of £150,000.

The judge found that Singh’s son was aware of the true nature of his mother’s capabilities and actively conspired with her to overstate them to get the claim off the ground.
As a result, Admiral were awarded damages totalling just under £55,000, including £10,000 exemplary damages against both fraudsters.

“In this case, Singh’s dishonest claim – potentially valued in the millions – was only made possible with the active involvement of her son. We hope this outcome sends a clear message – honesty is not optional and fraudulent behaviour will be met with decisive action.
