’This was a deeply calculated fraud, orchestrated by a former dentist who used her professional knowledge and personal influence to manipulate both her son and daughter,’ says detective sergeant
Three members of the same family have been sentenced for orchestrating a complex dental insurance fraud worth more than £350,000, following an investigation led by the City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (Ifed).

Bozena Rak-Latos, 63, Kacper Latos, 36, and Magdalena Latos, 33, were found guilty of fraud by false representation and conspiracy to defraud after a four-week trial at Wood Green Crown Court.
Rak-Latos, of Olympian Court, Regents Park Road, London, was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 24 months, and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
Magdalena Latos, of the same address as Rak-Latos, was given an 18-month suspended sentence and 150 hours of unpaid work.
And Kacper Latos, of Castleton House, Aerodrome Road, London, received a 20-month suspended sentence and 90 hours of unpaid work.
The fraud was carried out through BRL Dentos, trading as Diamond Dental and Medical Clinic, which was based in Finchley, north London.
Between August 2020 and June 2021, the clinic submitted £356,587 in dental treatment claims to health insurer Simply Health, of which £141,618 was paid out.
Investigators found that the claims were linked to 113 insurance policies set up under seven companies. Patients were falsely listed as employees of those businesses to qualify for corporate dental insurance schemes.
The puppeteer
At the centre of the conspiracy was Rak-Latos, a former dentist who had been struck off by the General Dental Council in 2018 following a previous fraud conviction in Poland. Despite no longer being permitted to practise, she retained control of the clinic through her children and directed the fraud from behind the scenes.

Evidence recovered by investigators included videos, audio recordings and documents showing Rak-Latos instructing her son and daughter on how to submit claims, respond to insurer queries and conceal the fraud. When she learned that police were contacting patients, she ordered clinic computers to be replaced and told her children to ensure all claimed treatments had been completed.
Son Kacper Latos, who registered with the General Dental Council in June 2020, exploited corporate dental insurance schemes almost immediately. He submitted inflated or fabricated claims, some of which were paid into his personal bank account and used for personal expenses.
Daughter Magdalena Latos, who handled reception and marketing, played a key role in expanding the operation by opening business accounts, liaising with brokers and chasing claims.
T/detective sergeant Alan Yau at Ifed said: “This was a deeply calculated fraud, orchestrated by a former dentist who used her professional knowledge and personal influence to manipulate both her son and daughter.”

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
