‘CFC’s tech roadmap is like no other insurance business,’ says new appointee

Specialist insurance provider CFC has appointed Ian McLean as its new chief technology officer.

In his new role, McLean will be responsible for accelerating the delivery of CFC’s technology roadmap.

He brings over 25 years of experience in scaling technology functions to the role and joins from financial services platform Pollinate, where he was chief product and technology officer.

He has also held senior technology roles at insurers and insurtech companies, including Covea, UnderwriteMe and Validis.

CFC group chief operating officer Matthew Glenville said McLean’s arrival came at a “pivotal time” for the business.

He said: “He’s joining at a pivotal time for CFC, bringing the kind of experience and leadership that will help us continue to scale with purpose.

“Technology is central to how we serve our brokers, support our underwriters and grow globally. McLean will play a crucial role in helping us further scale these efforts with pace and precision.”

‘Hugely excited’

CFC has undergone some leadership changes in 2025, with the arrival of Nick Line from Markel to replace Dan Trueman, who departed to Axis.

The restructuring also includes Andy Holmes transitioning to group capacity director after 21 years as chief underwriting officer.

Commenting on his own appointment, McLean said: “I am hugely excited to be joining CFC at a pivotal moment in its technology journey.

“Its commitment to building scale, resilience and innovation into its tech roadmap is like no other insurance business.

“My task ahead is packed with exciting initiatives that will see CFC become a leader in having tech that enables automated and AI-augmented underwriting.”
