Insurance Times rounds up the most significant appointments, promotions and leadership changes from 29 September to 3 October 2025

At the start of the week, Ageas confirmed a leadership shake-up at Esure following the completion of its £1.3bn acquisition of the business.

Chief executive David McMillan and chief financial officer Peter Bole will both step down from their roles at Esure. Peter Martin-Simon, previously chief commercial officer, will take over as chief executive, while Alistair Smith will become chief financial officer.

Then, Ageas UK unveiled a refreshed executive team as it began integrating Esure into the business.

Reporting directly to chief executive Ant Middle, the line-up includes Adam Beckett as managing director for broker and partnerships, Alan MacEwan as chief customer and operations officer, Andy Burton as interim chief technology officer, Caroline Smith as chief people officer, Helen Cooper as chief risk officer, Jonathan Price as chief financial officer, Stephen Linklater as chief claims officer and Thomas Quirke as chief underwriting officer.

Peter Martin-Simon has also been confirmed as Esure chief executive and managing director – direct.

Following this, Marsh McLennan UK chief executive Chris Lay was confirmed as the next chair of the London Market Group (LMG).

Lay will take over the role in January 2026 from Sean McGovern, chief executive at Axa XL Lloyd’s and London market, who steps down at the end of his three-year term in December.

After that, Aviva appointed Alex McMurrough as director of pricing, insights and exposure management within its commercial lines underwriting office.

McMurrough joins from QBE, where he was group head of pricing and analytics, and will report to Karen Dayal, chief underwriting officer for commercial lines.

Rounding off the week, Markel confirmed the hire of Clarice Francis as operations manager for war and terrorism.

Francis joins from Hiscox, where she specialised in operations management and project delivery. She will be London-based and report to Ed Winter, director of terrorism at Markel International.
